  • What is Reading Heroes?
    We are a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with dyslexia and related reading needs. We believe in equally supporting the academic and social/emotional needs of our campers. Our approaches are positive, engaging, encouraging and fun!
  • Who can attend Reading Heroes?
    Reading Heroes is an appropriate summer camp program for children entering 1st grade through 6th grade who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, are in the process of a dyslexia diagnosis, or have an identified related reading difficulty.
  • What are the dates for Reading Heroes?
    June 3 to June 28, 2024
  • What time is Reading Heroes?
    8 am to noon, Monday through Friday
  • What is the location of Reading Heroes?
    Barton Middle School, 4950 Jack C. Hays Trail, Buda, TX 78610
  • How much does Reading Heroes cost?
    $180 per week which includes all fees such as materials, supplies, a t-shirt, and daily/weekly incentives and prizes
  • Do I have to register for all 4 weeks?
    No, but it is highly recommended to register for at least 2 consecutive weeks. Parents and teachers have shared that students make the most gains when they attend a minimum of 2 weeks that are back to back. Campers who receive the most benefit from Reading Heroes come all 4 weeks. We understand that due to other summer plans or the cost, it may not be possible to attend more than 2 weeks.
  • Is fundraising or a payment plan available?
    Yes! We have 3 options for parents who want to raise money. 100% of the profits go toward camp fees. A flexible payment plan allows parents to pay for 1 week at a time.
  • When should I register?
    The Registration Form opens March 1. Register as soon as possible because spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • What does a day at Reading Heroes look like?
    8:00 to 8:15- Large group activity/game (everyone together) 8:15 to 8:45- Rotation 1 (small groups, max 7, go to each teacher) 8:45 to 9:15- Rotation 2 9:15 to 9:45- Rotation 3 9:45 to 10:10- Break/Snack Time/Inside or Outside 10:10 to 10:45- Rotation 4 10:45 to 11:15- Rotation 5 11:15 to 11:45- Rotation 6 11:45 to 12:00- Large group activity/game
  • How many students can attend Reading Heroes?
    Our maximum enrollment is 42 campers per week. Group sizes do not exceed 7 students per teacher so that campers can receive small group and individualized help.
  • How are campers grouped?
    Campers are in groups based on grade or age.
  • Who teaches at Reading Heroes?
    Highly trained and certified dyslexia specialists teach the 4 core classes, certified art and music teachers teach art and music. The campers rotate between all 6 teachers every day.
  • Who are the Reading Heroes Camp Mentors?
    They are teens and college students who volunteer at Reading Heroes. Almost all of the Camp Mentors were previous campers, so they have a unique ability to connect and relate to campers. They support the teachers and campers, participate in games and activities, as well as help plan fun activities! Camp Mentors are leaders and role-models who inspire and help campers realize their own potential!
